Cornstarch particles (d ~ 15 μm) suspended in water form a shear-thickening suspension. At low stress, particles interact through repulsive forces and the suspension remains liquid-like with a viscosity η0(ϕ). Above a critical stress τc(ϕ), frictional contacts emerge, the viscosity increases sharply, and the material can enter a jammed, solid-like state.
